A stunning pair of portraits by Ramsay Richard Reinagle of his father, Philip Reinagle, in naval and civilian garb. Born in London in 1775, the son of Philip Reinagle who was also a Royal Academician, Ramsay Richard Reinagle was a child protege, first exhibiting at the Royal academy in 1788 at the age of 13 and becoming a member in 1823. Well known for his portraits and sporting art Reinagle also contributed to a number of publications including Allan Cunningham’s ‘Lives of the British Painters’
Reinagle travelled extensively in Europe and is perhaps best remembered for his large scale panoramic painting’s that were exhibited in a specially erected exhibition building on the Strand in the early years of the 19th century.
