Wilhelm Rontgen first successfully produced and detected X-Rays or 'Rontgen Rays' in 1895 and by 1896 X-Ray photography had really really captured the publics imagination.   This novelty penny coin op machine was perhaps a converted fortune telling machine repurposed as a flagrant cash in on the fad, dispensing crude printed cards of skeletal images to gullible and one presumes subsequently disappointed punters.   Working condition with original key.
