An exceptional German Thalia toy theatre by Adolph Engel of Berlin, Circa. 1880. Engel was in business from 1848-1906 during which he produced some of the finest and most elaborate toy theaters. This example is one of their finer offerings, unusually large in size, measuring 33'' high, 31'' wide and 20'' deep. The curtain operates on a working roller revealing an elaborate lithograph and the tinplate footlights are operational being fitted with spirit reservoirs and wicks. Extra scenery and actors are included. The wood and lithographed card components disassemble and the wooden stage serves as a storage box.
Condition -
